Development Research Conference 2024
The Development Research Conference (DevRes 2024) is a multi-disciplinary forum for researchers working in fields linked to development and sustainability. DevRes 2024 is hosted by Lund University and this year’s theme is “Reaching the Sustainable Development Goals in a polarized world”.
Growing polarization in the world is hampering our efforts and ability to collectively reach the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The ongoing war in both Ukraine and Gaza is leading to shifting power balances and changed political priorities for many countries, with international development cooperation increasingly being sidelined. Current wars in combination with the aftermath of the pandemic are also impacting the global economy, hitting countries in the Global South particularly hard. In addition, accelerating climate change and biodiversity loss is affecting natural resource dependent communities the most, with the majority living in low and middle-income countries.
DevRes 2024 invites Swedish affiliated researchers and their partners to Lund to present and discuss how current polarization and conflicting objectives hamper the SDG agenda. The conference also highlights how collaborative research has societal impacts towards a more equitable and sustainable future.
