The Department of Social and Economic Geography is a dynamic entity of the University of Lund with a strong international reputation for both research and education in human geography. The Department is active in economic geography, historical and landscape geography, environmental geography, urban/social/political geography, and development geography. You are more than welcome to familiarize yourself with our research activities and course programs through the links on this website.
The Department’s researchers are well-known at national and international level through publications, conference participation, invited speeches, and through national and international cooperation in research networks and organizations. A prime example of this is the Department strong involvement in the Lund-based interdisciplinary research centre CIRCLE (Center for Innovation, Research and Competence in the Learning Economy) (www.circle.se) – the world’s largest centre of its kind.
Teaching takes place in the newly renovated and well-equipped class rooms in Geocentre, which also hosts the geography library. With about twenty research-active staff and about twenty Ph.D students, the Department can offer research-based teaching within a wide range of geography subfields.
