Martin Prowse

Martin studied at the universities of Sussex and Manchester before working at the Overseas Development Institute, London, the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. His research focuses on agricultural commercialization, value chains and on climate change, mostly in Southern and Eastern Africa. He has particular expertise in the tobacco sector in Malawi and contract farming more broadly. He also has a keen interest in methodology and research methods.

Martin teaches on a large number of courses within the MA and BA programmes in development studies (LUMID and BIDS, respectively) housed at the Department of Human Geography. He coordinates undergraduate dissertations in development studies and coordinates the first LUMID course for each new batch of MA students.

Martin has been involved in consultancy assignments for a number of organisations including the UN's Food and Agricultural Organisation, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the UK's Department for International Development, France's Agence Française de Développement and the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie).
